Alanis Morissette, indie rocker queen of all things 90s, has long left behind the former angsty persona that led her to write hits like "You Oughta Know." These days, the Grammy winner spends her time giving advice on her new column in The Guardian. It turns out there's a major reason for her new endeavors, and she's particularly fond of her Instagram and blog.
Morissette recently sat down with Vogue to talk about her life and how she's turned around from being a singer-songwriter to focusing on helping other people through her knowledge in psychology. Right now, the singer is writing in more than one form – from posting on her website to her new project with The Guardian and even penning a memoir.
So, did she feel like she was "coming out" as a more rounded writer with her blog?
"I've always had a little of a blind spot around how I am perceived. But there's uniformity now," Morissette said. "This may be a crass way of understanding it, but there's something about even looking at my own Instagram, looking at my blog, where I'm getting a sense of self that I never had."

Morissette also explained that her major focus at the moment is finishing her book, which is her biggest resolution for 2016. While she's not abandoning music (apparently she has about 13 songs in the waiting room), she's trying really hard to focus on her new projects and finally expand to other ventures, and during the Vogue piece, she even managed to slip in some relationship advice for her interviewer!
Last year, Morissette celebrated the 20th anniversary of the record that turned her into an international superstar, Jagged Little Pill, which included some of her biggest hits ever like "Head Over Feet" and "Hand in My Pocket."
The ever-busy Canadian star's new column, Ask Alanis, comes out on weekends.
