Months back, Ariel Winter, who has been playing Alex Dunphy on Modern Family since the show began in 2009, bravely spoke about having breast reduction surgery and being at peace with the decision. Last weekend, the curvy 18-year-old wore a dress at the 2016 SAG Awards where her scars from the surgery were visible, which prompted social media users to criticize her -- and she's not about to take it!

The controversy began when Winter stepped on the award show's red carpet in a strapless gown where the corner of one of her scars was visible. It was the day after her 18th birthday and, while she looked downright amazing, obviously that didn't stop the mean comments on social media.

According to Teen Vogue, though, the actress, who at 18 is far more centered than many twice her age, took to Twitter to say she'd made a conscious decision to let her scars be visible at the event. Why? Because she's "not ashamed" of the way she looks!

Still, that wasn't all the actress had to say on the subject. Days after the controversy began, Winter took to Instagram to share a quote by designer Marc Jacobs regarding beauty and how it's not necessarily linked to perfection.

As People Magazine reports, unfortunately this isn't the first time Winter faces body shaming over her curvy body. Back in November, the actress shared a snap of herself with her nieces at a boat, while she was wearing a bikini. Seeing as the Internet is filled with those who think their opinion should be always read no matter how awful it is, countless users called her names like "slut" and "provocative" just for sharing the picture. Winter, who is no stranger to defending herself with class, said that whatever a woman might be wearing, this doesn't imply she was "asking for" any sort of abuse.

Young and all, Winter seems to be a really great role model for girls and women of all ages!
