The Merc with a Mouth hasn't even invaded theaters yet, but the sequel to Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool has already been greenlighted and the script is already being written. But the question is, will Wade Wilson's BFF and X-Force leader Cable play a major part in Deadpool 2?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source has confirmed that Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are already working on the screenplay for the sequel. In addition to that, 20th Century FOX has greenlighted the project even before the worldwide release of Deadpool.

But what is the screenplay all about? If you believe Reynolds, then the script will probably involve Deadpool's comic book ally Cable. We have previously reported that the actor confirmed discussions about a Cable and Deadpool movie. It wouldn't be a surprise if that film turns out to be the next chapter of Wade's cinematic saga.

In addition to having Cable on board, Deadpool 2 might also feature more members of the X-Men as well as some members of the X-Force. Reynolds has already admitted that he is interested in getting more characters to appear in future Deadpool movies, although he seems to prefer X-Force to the X-Men.

"In the future, if we're doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we're really going to explore the X-Men a lot," he told FILMSTARTS. "Maybe X-Force -- X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in."

There is no word yet on whether director Tim Miller will return to work on the film with Reynolds, Wernick and Reese. However, THR has reported that FOX wants to keep the creative team together for the Deadpool sequel, possibly in hopes that the follow-up movie will generate the same buzz as the first one.

Deadpool will crash into theaters on February 12.
