Fans can stop asking whether Thanos will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Director James Gunn has officially announced (again) that Josh Brolin and the Infinity Stones will not appear in the sequel as the Mad Titan, but he is certainly happy to have Pom Klementieff in the movie!

Gunn recently conducted a Facebook Q&A, where he answered several fan questions about the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, including Brolin's possible return as the Marvel villain.

"Thanos will not appear in Vol. 2. As I've said before, Thanos isn't in this movie," Gunn confirmed before adding a few details about what the Mad Titan will be up to in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I think he's gonna have a little bit to do and say when it comes to a certain war and infinity," he teased. "We've got other fish to fry in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

He may not be in Vol. 2, but that doesn't mean we won't be seeing more of Thanos in the future. We have previously reported that Brolin will appear in Avengers: Infinity War as the villain, which he admits is one of the better decisions he's made in his life.

With Thanos out of the picture, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and the gang aren't exactly worried about looking for Infinity Stones in the sequel.

"We're not really so much about the Infinity Stones in Guardians 2," Gunn said. "Is that a spoiler? It's not really a thing."

They might miss Brolin and the Infinity Stones in the film, but the director is quite happy with the newest addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup.

"We have a new cast member playing a new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and she was the most awesome and easiest person I've ever had to cast, and blew me the f--k away. Really," Gunn said. "She's amazing and I can't wait to share her with the world."

Gunn is obviously talking about Brolin's Oldboy costar Pom Klementieff, who has been cast as Mantis.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017.
