The midseason premiere of The Walking Dead Season 6 may have been proof that the AMC show will be following the storylines in the comic book series, which might be bad news for the fans of Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). However, it might also mean that Maggie Green (Lauren Cohan) will finally be taking more control of the group as well as the new players who will be joining the sixth season!

Cohan recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly, where she revealed that the relationship between Maggie and Deanna Monroe (Tovah Feldshuh) may have paved the way for Glenn's wife to take on the leadership in Alexandria.

"It's been really interesting, because Deanna saw things in Maggie that she didn't necessarily see in herself when they got to Alexandria, and I think the most important part was that she could be this intermediary," Cohan said. "She understood the way her group functioned, but she also has that hopeful vision and aligned with that hopeful vision that Deanna had to create a sustainable community."

Cohan further explained that Maggie's relationship with Deanna actually helped Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) realize that she could be someone that the Alexandrians could relate to.

"These are the things you have to do, and he's realizing that Maggie may be able to deal with certain people that he isn't able to," Cohen said of Rick. "He's, well, you know, brutish. So we have his sort of combined approach to a lot of the future challenges that we'll see this season, and it's fantastic."

It certainly sounds like Maggie's storyline is well on its way to follow that of the character in the comic book, who eventually becomes the de facto leader of the Hilltop Colony. Cohen offered some details on Maggie's future in the back part of TWD Season 6.

"Going forward, we're reunited and stronger, but as a group we need to expand - and not just with babies, but we need to expand, and we're going to go out into a new territory that's going to really open up the next level of the show," she said before teasing about what this new place could be.

"You've seen the group look for new safe holds, but the next place we find is going to be the beginning of the show as we've come to know it," she said.
