Having been around since George Lucas' earliest drafts, Peter Mayhew, who originated the role of Chewbacca, is now taking to Twitter to share pages of a very early draft of Episode IV: A New Hope!

Mayhew, who played the Wookiee in the original trilogy, one of the films of the second trilogy and so far the only movie of the third one, certainly knows his way around the Star Wars universe.

According to The Verge, while many diehard fans of Lucas' story of a galaxy far, far away might know what happened in the earliest drafts of the first film, more casual fans should still get a kick out of the first pages of a very different script.

Originally called The Adventures of Luke Starkiller, the screenplay Mayhew is posting page by page is from March 1976, only weeks before filming began.

"The Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the Journal of the Whills by George Lucas reads completely different from what Star Wars Episode IV eventually became," reads a statement from Mayhew, via Slash Film. "Peter's script along with Peter's wookiee coffee thumbprints and notes scrawled on the pages are a treat to read and brings us back to the root of what made Star Wars great."

Mayhew is releasing his own copy of the original New Hope to the public as a countdown, posting pages of the script on Twitter to lead up to what he's calling a "big announcement," possibly regarding Episode 8. Although Chewbacca, along with Harrison Ford's Han Solo, was a major part of last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, when Disney's Lucasfilm released the cast sheet for Episode 8, currently in production, Mayhew's name wasn't on it. Could the actor be announcing his actual involvement (or not) in the new movie?

The still-untitled sequel Star Wars: Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, will hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2017.
