The tenth episode of The Walking Dead Season 6 has already aired and finally introduced Tom Payne as the thieving Paul "Jesus" Monroe. Executive producer Greg Nicotero still gets asked about the jaw-dropping midseason premiere "No Way Out." The TWD special effects supervisor recently opened up about how Episode 10 has introduced the end of a chapter and set the tone for the back half of Season 6.

"That episode was all set up to build," Nicotero said in an interview in the Walker Stalker Convention in London, adding that all the previous episodes helped in preparation of "No Way Out."

"We set the release valve and we trickle-trickle-trickle-trickle-trickle and build up to that explosive moment in Episode 9," he said.

But don't expect the rest of the second half of Season 6 to be exactly like the midseason premiere. Nicotero revealed that each episode will have a life of its own but still connect to the finale.

"It's not like every episode is going to have that same tone or that same method of madness. It was the end of that section of our story, very much like The Walking Dead does," he said. "We'll have a little mini-story and that story will go four, five, six, eight episodes, and then the show will take a little bit of a left turn or a right turn and morph into something different."

So what can fans look forward to for the rest of TWD Season 6? Nicotero confirmed that things are about to get interesting.

"I think where we're headed now is probably the most exciting modulation of The Walking Dead that we've ever done, because we know that we're getting into meeting the Saviors, we know that Negan is right around the corner, so the show is really poised to take a very big shift in tone," he said.

"Knots Untied," the 11th episode of The Walking Dead Season 6 will air on AMC on February 28.
