In the Girls Season 5 "Good Man" episode, Jessa Johansson (Jemima Kirke) and Adam Sackler (Adam Driver) try very hard to keep away from each other after that kiss in the middle of the wedding chaos last week. In the meantime, Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham) faces a "gay dad" emergency, and Ray (Alex Karpovsky) starts a coffee war in this recap with spoilers.

At the start of the episode, Hannah's boyfriend, Fran Parker (Jake Lacy) moves in with her and Elijah Krantz (Andrew Rannells), at least for a while, because his roommate happens to be crazy. It's no biggie in their relationship, which is still going great though we don't have a lot of details about them.

In any case, while Hannah's at work (inappropriately discussing Philip Roth's anthology of short stories Goodbye Columbus), she gets a call from her father, Tad (Peter Scolari), who came out of the closet in the previous season. He's downtown with an emergency: he hooked up with a guy after meeting him online and he left his wallet at said guy's apartment.

Hannah takes on the awkward task of retrieving her father's wallet, but not before her mother, Loreen (Becky Ann Baker), tells her she wants to divorce him.

Still, the most interesting thing in the episode probably isn't what happens with Hannah, but what doesn't happen because of her existence. During an AA meeting, Jessa and Adam meet up and he says the two have feelings for each other that they should pursue, but she's adamant: now that she's on the mend, she's done hurting the people she loves and wouldn't hook up with her best friend's ex.

Jessa obviously has feelings for Adam too, but she's tired of being awful to other people, so she insists the two can never get together. Still, Adam says they should hang out as friends, and the two spend a cute day at an amusement park as friends, in a sequence that looks straight out of a romantic comedy.

Once their "platonic" date ends, Adam leans in to kiss Jessa, but she insists they can't do anything that could potentially hurt Hannah. Instead of kissing, the two decide not to touch, meaning ending up on opposite ends of a couch masturbating without looking at each other.

For some reason, they think Hannah's less likely to be hurt over that than them making out, but all right.

In the meantime, a new coffee house opens up in front of Ray's, and they've taken all his clientele -- and to top it all off, the new coffee place doesn't believe in coffee lids, so the people are not only not buying Ray's coffee but they're also stealing his lids.

When he goes across the street to complain, he's met with laughter and ends up putting his foot in his mouth after referring to a non-binary person as "he," then looking extremely confused about their gender.

Elijah, who now works with Ray, escapes his job when Hannah calls him up for her gay dad emergency, but chooses to bail once he notices she and her father are crying and hugging. Going up to a bar, a famous reporter named Dill Harcourt (House of Cards alum Corey Stoll) hits on him, leaving all sorts of possibilities for future episodes.

Shoshanna Shapiro (Zosia Mamet) and Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams) are nowhere to be seen on this episode, and it could be assumed that the former's in Japan and the latter, on her honeymoon.

The next episode of Girls, "Japan," will come out on March 6.
