MStars News has learned that three men have been arrested and charged in a Charlotte shooting that took place over the weekend during the big CIAA Tournament.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Mecklenburg police have charged Howard Kevin Wright, 32 and Dereke Bolton, 34 of Memphis, Tennessee along with a third man, Kevin Demetrius Thompson, 28 who lives in South Carolina.

All three men were in town for the CIAA tournament 2016, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spokeswoman Officer Jessica Wallin said.

Fox 46 Charlotte revealed that the three suspects opened fire in the early hours of Sunday morning and sprayed at least 40 to 50 shots into two vehicles and an uptown hotel with an AK-47. The men fired the gun from the Charlotte Government Center parking deck. The bullets hit a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and a red SUV parked behind that was parked in front of a hotel lobby.

All three men have been charged with three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm in city limits. Thompson and Wright received an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon. The motive of the shooting is still unknown at this time.

It's unknown who the men were trying to target, but detectives believe the shooting wasn't a random act of violence.

No one was injured, but a woman and another person were sitting in the SUV at the time the shooting occured. A bullet shattered the rear window and struck the hood of the SUV.

If anyone has any further information about the shooting, please contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the Crime Stoppers mobile app website at https://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.

The CIAA Tournament is one of the biggest weeks for the North Carolina city. It features parties, basketball tournaments, step shows, and other events surrounded by both historically black private and public colleges and universities.
