Katie Holmes' 'Kennedy' Miniseries Sequel 'After Camelot' Casts Matthew Perry as Ted

Chandler Bing has joined one of the most iconic American families in the 20th century: the Kennedys! Matthew Perry, who played the character on Friends for the duration of the series, has been cast as Ted Kennedy in the upcoming Reelz miniseries sequel, The Kennedys: After Camelot, joining Katie Holmes, who will be reprising her role as former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

According to TV Line, the Emmy Award nominee has been tapped to play the iconic politician, as the new miniseries is set to follow the Kennedy family in the years after the assassinations of both John and Robert. Besides playing the longtime Democratic Senator, Perry will also serve as executive producer in the four-episode miniseries.

After Camelot, a title referencing the Kennedys' longtime ties to the iconic 60s musical Camelot, will follow Ted Kennedy's complex public and personal life, as his family sought for a male leader that would continue the legacy. The series will also follow Kennedy Onassis' strong ties to the family until her death, and how she and her brother-in-law became closer in the years after the two biggest Kennedy political figures were killed.

"We are privileged to have an actor of Matthew Perry's stature and ability take on the role of such a complex and controversial figure as Ted Kennedy," Michael Prupas, After Camelot's executive producer, told Variety when announcing the actor was joining the project. "Matthew Perry and Katie Holmes will fascinate audiences around the world as they bring these two famous Americans to life."

Perry has been no stranger to television since Friends ended its run, but he's had limited luck so far. Since walking out of Central Park, the star has been on several short-lived projects, such as Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Mr. Sunshine, Go On and most recently, The Odd Couple, which will be premiering its second season in a few weeks.

The Kennedys: After Camelot will premiere on Reelz on spring 2017.
