Turns out Hugh Jackman is a real-life superhero. While on Sydney Australia's Bondi Beach, the 47-year old Wolverine star saved his 15-year-old son Oscar from drowning after he was caught in a riptide. Jackman also helped a man caught in the same current who was grabbing the X-Men actor's 10-year-old daughter Ava Eliot.

Witness Lynzey Murphy told the Sunday Telegraph "When we got in the water 20 minutes earlier it was fine. Then the water just came up suddenly. Hugh just pulled them calmly on to the sandbar."  Jackman was later quoted as saying "All right, we are going to walk towards the flags."  An anonymous witness later added "He stopped and helped this bloke stand up and he also helped his son. The swell was pretty nasty. It was a beautiful day but the swell was up."

Footage of the incident showing the Oscar nominee's heroics was caught by the Nine NetworkPeter Adam, the man Jackman helped, later told the Australian TV station "He wasn't rescuing me, I was assisting him to get his daughter up to the sandbar. He then grabbed my hand to get us up."

Lifeguards joined the rescue effort by grabbed jet-skis and boards. They later closed the beach due to the fierce wave conditions.  The North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club posted their thanks to the surfers on duty, as well as Jackman, on their Instagram page. The Golden Globe winner for Les Miserables was in his native country to promote his new film Eddie the Eagle

WELL DONE to Patrol 13 captained by Rosie Taliano & Tom Bunting this afternoon who completed 43 rescues in total with only a limited 12 patrolling members rostered on. There were also 3 rescues in the morning completed by Patrol 10. A big THANK YOU to Waverley Duty Officers, @brontesurfclub, @bondisblsc, @bondilifeguards and @surfrescue30 for your extra assistance. The beach had to be closed due to dangerous conditions, multiple rescues happening all at once and limited resources. @thehughjackman was also spotted assisting with rescues! Ironically, Jackman isn't the only celebrity to perform a heroic act. Here is a list of 5 others who could supposedly helped save lives.

5) Katy Perry:  Like Hugh Jackman, she once saved two drowning victims when she provided 2 floatation devices.

4) Lindsay Lohan:  The Mean Girls actress once saved dozens of people from an out of control DUI driver when she decided to take a cab.

3) Nicki Minaj: When several fans suffered heatstroke at one of her concerts, she saved their lives when her butt provided them shade.

2) Johnny Depp:  The actor recently diffused a bomb when he decided not to appear in the sequel Mortdecai 2.

1) Chris Christie:  When a snake bit Donald Trump in the buttocks, the NJ Governor saved his life by sucking out the poison.
