It looks like Henry Cavill's Kal-El simply cannot get a break despite his dramatic death in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Incredible Hulk comic book writer, Peter David, has just weighed in on Cavill's portrayal of the Kryptonian, stating that it was difficult to relate to someone who "acts like a god!"

David shared his review on Batman v Superman on his website, where he dissected Cavill's performance in the film.

"Ninety percent of the time that Cavill is on screen, he's in Superman mode, even when he's Clark," David wrote, adding that the Man of Steel's superiority over mankind is shown throughout the film.

"As Superman he never cracks a smile, never cracks a joke, never cracks his façade," he shared, pointing out one particular scene.

"Even when a building explodes around him, killing everyone but him, he is just left standing there looking bummed out. He doesn't try to find out if anyone survived, he doesn't do anything. He just stands there, like God observing just how idiotic mortals can be," David stated, later adding that the superhero only chose to help when he felt like it.

"Cavill's Superman is treated like a god and acts like a god, helping where and when he sees fit, but largely outside of humanity, as if life is some great party to which he is not invited," the comic book writer shared, adding that the Kal-El in BvS doesn't seem to comprehend humans.

"He doesn't get us, he doesn't understand us, he doesn't see where his place in humanity is supposed to be," he continued before asking how the viewer would relate to someone who acts alienated.

"How am I supposed to care about someone who is so detached from the race among which he was raised?" David wrote.

Despite his review, the writer was quick to point out that he didn't blame Cavill for the alternate portrayal of Superman.

"It's not that he's a bad actor. He's not," he wrote, adding that there is one scene where Cavill's Clark shows his human side.

"He even actually has a scene where he gets to act like a human being and climb into a bathtub with Amy Adams's Lois Lane. He seems to enjoy that. Who wouldn't? I'm happily married with four children, but I'd climb into a bathtub with a naked Amy Adams if given the opportunity. So would you, so don't judge," David wrote.

David is best known for his works on The Incredible Hulk, Young Justice, Super Girl and X-Factor.

What do you think? Did this version of Superman lack the connection with humanity that we've seen in previous versions? Did that make the movie less appealing to you? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
