Jesse Eisenberg Explains Why Lex Luthor Created Doomsday in "BvS"

It's hard to explain what goes on in the minds of supervillains. In the case of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the character decided it was a good idea to create Doomsday in case Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader doesn't succeed in defeating Henry Cavill's Man of Steel. But what pushed Lex to experiment on a Kryptonian corpse? Jesse Eisenberg might have the answer!

In an interview with IGN, Eisenberg explained how the DC supervillain probably wasn't THAT crazy in the beginning of BvS, but eventually got more psychotic as the film progressed.

"I think Lex becomes increasingly unhinged throughout the movie," Eisenberg shared before adding that the villain was very much prepared in case the Dark Knight doesn't succeed in taking out the Man of Steel.

"I also think he's a guy who has 40 back-up plans and so when one thing doesn't work out he has another and if that doesn't work out he has another, which is why I think he never feels that threatened by Superman and Batman because he knows he always has the leverage and his final act," he said.

But why create Doomsday? Eisenberg stated that the monster could have been Lex's way of just getting rid of all the superheroes once and for all.

"[It] was this kind of like last-ditch effort to leave it all on the table," he said.

Although Batman v Superman ended with Lex being taken to prison, it looks like the creation of Doomsday might not be the villain's last act of craziness. In a deleted BvS scene, Eisenberg's character is seen communicating with a mysterious villain holding mother boxes in the genesis chamber of Zod's ship. There's still a possibility that we haven't seen the last of Lex after all.
