Will Ian Somerhalder's Damian Salvatore Return After 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8?

It looks like it's the end for everybody's favorite vampire soap opera. Ian Somerhalder has just confirmed that Damian Salvatore will not be returning after The Vampire Diaries Season 8. Actually, nobody is coming back, since the eighth season could be the last for The CW show!

The former Lost star recently made an appearance at the Walker Stalker Con in Nashville, where he revealed that it is time to put a stake through the heart of The Vampire Diaries.

"We have decided to do one last season to sort of do it justice," Somerhalder teased, adding that there could be some major changes for Damian in the final season.

"Work very hard on it, my role is shifting in the show, and we have a lot to do basically," he concluded.

Although it sounds like Somerhalder is pretty sure that this will be the last season for The Vampire Diaries, People's Choice has just tweeted that there may be more in store for the CW series after Season 8.

It may seem that there is still a possibility that The Vampire Diaries isn't ending soon, but will Damian no longer return after the eighth season?

TVD has certainly has a history of losing its major stars. Steve R. McQueen and Somerhalder's ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev both decided to say goodbye in Season 6. Most recently, Kat Graham announced that the eighth season will be her last.

It might not yet be confirmed, but the possible departure of the more popular Salvatore brother could prove to be a devastating loss for The Vampire Diaries. After all, Damian and Stefan (Paul Wesley) are the two main reasons why the show started in the first place.
