Nothing is official yet, but it’s really sounding like The Vampire Diaries will end after Season 8. Less than a week after Kat Graham announced season eight would be her last, Ian Somerhalder delivered the news that it would actually be the end of the show.

“Season 8 will be my last,” Graham told Us Weekly at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on April 3. “I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we’ll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go because we’re a family.”

Appearing at the WalkerStalkerCon fan convention in Nashville, Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore, told fans in attendance that the show is officially moving toward a finale. “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” he said.

However, The Hollywood Reporter noted that a spokesperson for The CW claims “no decision has been made when it comes to the future of the show.”

The show’s eighth season was announced last month as part of The CW’s mass renewal of 11 series, including a fourth season for TVD spinoff The Originals. No decision about TVD‘s future beyond Season 8 has been made.

If season eight is actually the last, it seems like Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert, is not going to let the show end without her being part of the finale.

“When the show ends Nina will be a part of it some way shape or form,” a source told Hollywood Life. “She is 10,000 percent coming back.”
