After over 15 years playing Logan in Fox's X-Men films and a few spinoffs of his own, Hugh Jackman will finally hang the claws for someone else to take his place after next year's still-untitled Wolverine sequel, and production's already moving forward. In the latest news, the Marvel adaptation has already cast its main villain: Boyd Holbrook, who plays Steve Murphy in Netflix's Narcos!

According to Deadline, Holbrook has been cast in the role of the lead villain in Wolverine 3. Following the footsteps from his role as a DEA agent during Colombia's drug wars, Holbrook will be playing the leader of a corporation trying to get his hands on the mutant. The character's name is unknown at this point.

Holbrook will be in the film opposite Jackman in his last appearance as Logan/Wolverine and Patrick Stewart, who will be reprising his role as X-Men founder Professor Xavier. The two characters return to the film franchise for the first time since 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, which had the casts of both timelines uniting for a mash-up film.

Wolverine 3 will be directed by James Mangold (also behind The Wolverine and Walk the Line), from a screenplay co-written by superhero story veteran Michael Green (who's worked with various materials, from Smallville to the Green Lantern movie) and David James Kelly.

Den of Geek reports that production for Wolverine 3 is set to begin shortly, since it's scheduled for an early 2017 release date.

Starting with 2000's X-Men, Jackman has played the character in numerous films, six in total, with roles varying in magnitude, including two stand-alone movies and a cameo in the 2011 reboot X-Men: First Class. There was also a cheeky "cameo" in this year's Deadpool, but that doesn't really count.

It's unclear whether the character will appear in this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse.

The still-untitled Wolverine 3 will be hitting theaters on March 3, 2017.
