Aside from launching Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as international superstars, it seems those who love good television have something else to thank Sherlock for: the upcoming Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls! Show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino recently revealed there was one thing she loved so much about the BBC show she ended up using it for Gilmore Girls: Seasons.

The Netflix revival, a series of four 90-minute films set in the four seasons of the year, is still shooting for a few more weeks in the Warner Bros. lot, and Sherman-Palladino took a moment to talk to Entertainment Weekly about the project --- and how watching Sherlock gave her the idea.

"We wanted to do it off-network and without commercials so we didn't have Supergirl flying through," said Sherman-Palladino. "I'm massively into Sherlock and what I love about Sherlock is the format is longer than an hour. They're their own little mini-movies. It felt like a format that would work well for us on a storytelling level and as writers we would enjoy delving into."

So far, BBC's Sherlock has had three seasons, each of them airing two years apart from each other and consisting of three 90-minute episodes. While it's excruciating for fans to wait two years until each season, the format has allowed some truly brilliant episodes, as showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat delve deeper into the modern-day reimagining of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective.

In all, the format does allow some interesting takes for character development, so it's no surprise Sherman-Palladino decided to approach her material in the same way -- it seems she even pitched the idea to star Lauren Graham by mentioning Sherlock!

In the meantime, TV Line has just released a new batch of images from the upcoming revival, and things look as lovely (and tense) as ever in Stars Hollow -- and it seems we can expect it to air later this very year!
