It's easy to see why fans are expecting Marvel's Luke Cage to be yet another extension of Netflix shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. After all, Mike Colter made his debut as Power Man in Krysten Ritter's solo series. However, Simone Missick, who will play Misty Knight in the new series, has just revealed that Luke Cage will be "completely different" from the other Marvel shows!

MIssick recently attended the Captain America: Civil War premiere, where she spoke to Comic Book Resources on the red carpet. The actress, together with showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, confirmed that Luke Cage is "its own thing."

"It's completely different," Missick said. "The colors, the feel, the sounds; everything about this show is its own thing."

The actress also shared that the fact that Luke Cage is set in a different city in New York gives it a unique tone.

"Harlem is a character in this show," she revealed. "All the other shows took place in Hell's Kitchen; this is the first one that's taking place in Harlem, and you definitely feel that."

Missick explained that the difference can be felt in "everything," from "the music" to "the conversations."

"It's its own thing," she stated again. "Luke Cage is something completely new."

The actress also spoke about taking on the iconic role of Misty, saying that "every day was a gift."

"To be able to be a strong woman, who's passionate about doing her job, to kick ass -- it was all of those things every single day," Missick said, sharing that she is proud to portray the Marvel character.

"Misty Knight is so iconic and so important to so many people; you don't realize until you join the project then people are like, 'Oh, my God, you're Misty Knight!' It makes you even more excited," she gushed, adding that it is a great honor to be the first actress to play the character.

"To be the first person to say these words, to give her a voice, it's like stepping into your own ocean, and it's yours," Missick concluded.

Marvel's Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix in September.
