It's been over 25 years since Pennywise, the most evil clown in literature, made its way onto television sets in the two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It, played then by legendary actor Tim Curry. Now, the horror book is getting another adaptation, this time on the big screen and played by Hemlock Grove actor Bill Skarsgard -- and he very much looks the part.

After many delays, production for the new adaptation of It is finally underway, and the first snap of the creepy clown has finally arrived, via Entertainment Weekly, along with an interview with the star of the show and your future nightmares.

"It's such an extreme character. Inhumane," Skarsgård says. "It's beyond even a sociopath, because he's not even human. He's not even a clown. I'm playing just one of the beings It creates...It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt. What's funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it's funny."

In the book and its subsequent 1990 adaptation, It/Pennywise isn't really a clown, but rather a demonic entity that has been preying on children for centuries, waking up once every 27 years. In the story, a group of children is haunted by this monster, being victimized by Pennywise when they were kids and later, again, when they're already adults, many living outside their childhood hometown.

The It remake has been in various stages of production for a couple of years, but it initially had an entirely different team behind it. Originally, it was True Detective creator and Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga set to work behind the camera, but he ultimately departed the project over creative differences.

At that point of production, it was The Revenant actor (and Tim Curry lookalike) Will Poulter who had been cast in the role of the terrifying clown, but once the project changed hands behind the screen, the part was recast.

It is one of the big King adaptation remakes currently filming, alongside a film version of The Dark Tower starring Idris Elba and Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey.
