Grey's Anatomy 13th Season: Amelia’s past could spell doom for her present

In the last episode of Grey's Anatomy, recently married couple Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) are facing a dilemma that could potentially destroy their relationship. She dismisses his plans of having children right away, after seeing a negative result from the pregnancy test. With fear of the past repeating itself, she hesitates to confide the issue with her new husband, causing a gap between them.

Turns out, as revealed on Private Practice (a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy), Amelia had a baby that was born without a brain, and died not long after. This came out during her conversation with Alex (Justin Chambers), this heartbreaking experience is something she has left, but quickly caught back to her.

In her interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scorsone reveals more about the character's situation and the emotions that are in play. According to her, Amelia wants to let Owen know the situation, not planning to hide it, but is afraid of the consequences. She is not sure if telling her about that part of her past would overwhelm him, or would cause them to separate ways. Not knowing what is going on behind the situation, Owen becomes bewildered at the sudden change of Amelia, who was at one point excited to become a mother. "She's kind of just reacting, and he's reacting right back," says Scorsone.

She also shares that the situation will also affect their professional lives. Wanting to focus on work to get away from the personal issues, Amelia encounters a kid in the hospital, who she needs to attend to. Being that the child is still quite young, it sparks up her feelings and becomes very maternal toward the child, as TV Line reports.

Regarding Amelia's relationship with Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo), Scorsone states that Amelia is not thinking about it at the moment, choosing to focus on how to handle her relationship with Owen amidst the issues that are going on.

Grey's Anatomy, now on its 13^th season, is an ABC medical drama focused on the lives of Meredith Grey and the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
