Multi award-winning actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio reveals plans to open a resort on his island Blackadore Caye.

DiCaprio, along with a business partner, bought the rights to a 104-acre unpopulated island off the coast of Belize. DiCaprio discussed building a luxurious yet eco-friendly resort on his island in hopes that the project will help push for positive environmental movement. Vanity Fair reported that the "enterprise" will be named "Blackadore Caye, a Restorative Island" scheduled to open in 2018.

The term "Restorative" was coined to the resort's aim to heal the damaged island in terms of overfishing, eroding coastline and the deforestation of its mangrove trees, the chief executive developer Paul Scialla who partnered with DiCaprio claims, "We don't want to just do less harm or even have zero impact, but to actually help heal the island, to make it better than before."

Lead design architect Jean-Michel Gathy takes on the project according to Domain, his works include efforts with Aman and One&Only with design inspirations from Belize's ancient Mayan ruins, with a minimalist and modern design that subtly nod to the pyramids in Central America. It's said that the 42-hectare island will have 36 residential properties and 36 bungalows for rent. The houses will have "ecotech" features that will help improve air and water quality.

Also, Leo's island will push for a "no-fossil-fuel" and "no-chemical" policy, also plastic water bottles are not allowed within the premises. The houses will be designed to have solar panels in order to produce renewable energy, plus an on-site treatment facility for waste and rainwater will be established in the island. Sources say that the resort will create 400 permanent jobs for hotel staff to workers for organic farms in the area.

How's that for an environmentally friendly paradise?
