The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) came out with a new ad campaign to discourage people from using wool with "Clueless" star Alicia Silverstone as their newest spokesperson. The poster revealed the actress in the nude and with the message: "I'd rather go naked than wear wool." Silverstone joins a long list of celebrities who have posed naked in support of animal rights.

An interview with Silverstone accompanied the poster and according to Fortune, the actress says she will not patronize wool as it hurts the animals from where it comes from. The actress says that when wool is harvested from sheep, it is cut and the animals get wounded. Silverstone adds that even when people tell her that sheep don't get killed when they get sheared, it's not ethical to divest them of their natural protective covering.

Silverstone promoted PETA's anti-wool ad on her Twitter and had many people responding with their thoughts about wool and shearing sheep.

PETA's new ad campaign had people questioning PETA's anti-wool ad and if Silverstone did her research with regards to harvesting wool. Some people expressed their opinion on social media saying that sheep shearing is basically just a haircut and that it helps them in the long run especially in the summer.

According to Inquisitr, shearing sheep of their wool is harmless, if not, healthier for the animal. Sheep that don't get regularly sheared off of their wool run the risk of them being vulnerable to the elements such as from predators, their safety and from life-threatening parasites. The outlet also referenced a story about Chris the sheep who wandered off for years and when found, he had enough wool to make plenty of suits for 30 people.
