'Star Citizen Game' on Amazon Now a Part of Windows & Linux

The upcoming space sim Star Citizen is a game for Windows and Linux. However, Cloud Imperial Games, the developers are switching the game to a new engine after four years of development.

The spiritual successor of Wing Commander Series, the Star Citizen is reportedly switching from the CryEngine of Crytek into Lumberyard by Amazon. The game's single player mode, Squadron 42 is also switching to a new game engine.

Star Citizen aims to combine multiple video game genres, including space trading and combat simulator and first-person shooter elements, in a massively multiplayer online game. According to Polygon, "Lumberyard provides groundbreaking technology features for online games. Because we share a common technical vision, it has been a very smooth and easy transition to Lumberyard," said Chris Roberts, the studio head and the creative lead for Star Citizen.

The game's success in crowdfunding pushed the developer to make Star Citizens and having it on multiple engines is really a great success to the team of Cloud Imperial Games. As Roberts' previously wrote on his blog that Alpha 2.6 will be accessed soon is now released. Reportedly, Star Citizen Alpha 2.6 is the first release to feature "Star Marine," the first-person shooter component of the game. This version also presents several new additions to the game - Pirate Swarm mode in Arena Commander and an updated menu system.

There are two competitive multiplayer modes - everyone-for-themselves and a Battlefield-style capture-and-hold mode. Other parts of Star Citizens have been polished such as first person animations and third person cameras. However, the game is yet to be tuned as Cloud Imperium has promised for many and better features over the years, the Engadget reported.
