"Star Wars: Episode 8" is still far from its release date. But still fans are busy speculating about the plot and the role that different key characters will end up playing in the movie.

Several "Star Wars: Episode 8" spoilers are doing rounds on the internet and the latest one was given away by actress Laura Dern. According to Bustle, Dern plays a mysterious and not-yet-disclosed role in the movie.

During the promotion of her latest movie titled "The Founder," Dern hinted that "Star Wars: Episode 8" will continue to focus on what the franchise has excelled in doing so far - women empowerment.

The 49-year-old actress explained how the last two movies in the "Star Wars" series - "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" and Episode 7 title "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" were centred around a leading woman character. While Daisy Ridley played the leading character Rey in Episode 7, Felicity Jones played the leading character Jyn Erso in "Rouge One."

According to Dern, woman empowerment has always been the centre of the works that each and every "Star Wars" movie has ever focussed on, contrary to what has always been happening on Earth. The actress says that "Star Wars: Episode 8" will continue to follow the history, hinting that Rey will continue to play central role in the movie, turning things around whenever possible.

The upcoming movie is expected to continue the story from where it was left off in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The confirmed characters in the movie include Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Rey, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac).

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm has kind of confirmed that Princess Leia's role will finish off with "Star Wars: Episode 8" and that no CGI effects will be used to create her image in "Star Wars: Episode 9." Following Fisher's death, it was being speculated that the franchise may use CGI to continue her role in the last installment in "Star Wars" trilogy.
