BlackBerry Mercury To Be Unveiled at MWC 2017

There have been numerous rumours regarding BlackBerry's latest Android smartphone, however, no official confirmation regarding the smartphone has been shared yet. A recent report suggests that the device may finally be unveiled at MWC 2017.

MWC is among the most celebrated events as far as the consumer electronics market is concerned. Prominent technology companies have made some of their most iconic debuts at the event till now. With BlackBerry Mercury rumours taking the minute rounds in and around the market, it appears like the company will finally be launching their much-awaited smartphone at the event as well.

According to gadgets.ndtv, the BlackBerry Mercury and other BlackBerry devices is set to debut at the Mobile World Congress (MCW). The event is scheduled to take place by the end of this month. BlackBerry with the help of TCL Communication Technology Holdings (TCT), is expected to be picked up by the company to license the continued development of the Smartphone.

Indian Express claims that the Mercury smartphone will come equipped with a QWERTY keyboard. The same report also suggests that while the company gave its fan a short, 22-second sneak peek into what they can expect with the launch of this smartphone. According to the information gathered from the video showcased by the company, the device appears to sport an aluminium casing on the sides with black antenna bands and a USB Type-C port at the bottom along with two speaker grilles. The right side of the device will be featuring a power on/off button along with the volume rockers.

There is a slight confusion as far as what the device will be called. On one hand, the President and GM of TCL, Steve Cistulli referred to its as the BlackBerry Press, most of the reports and speculations regarding the device suggested that the device may be called Mercury. Therefore, there is no clarification given on what the device will actually be called.

The same report suggests that TCL will be signing a deal with BlackBerry and has become responsible for the for the design, manufacture and distribution of smartphones made under the BlackBerry branding.
