Fans, judging from the trailers could tell that Logan was going to be completely different from the X-Men movies, but it turns out that there is a connection between the movies.  It was previously reported that "Logan" would be a standalone movie, but director James Mangold has clarified that film is connected to the "X-Men" films.

However, Hugh Jackman, who cast in "Wolverine," recently told Digital Spy that the movie would be much different from others. He revealed that he and Mangold decided to ignore the complicated X-Men timelines and that they do not see the movie existing in the same world.

"It is a standalone movie in many ways.... It is not really beholden to time lines and story lines in the other movies." He added that obviously Patrick Stewart was in it so there exist some crossover, but the film feels very fresh and very different.

He continues to say that fans will understand better when you see the full movie, as not only is it different in terms of tone and timeline, it is a slightly different universe. It is a different paradigm and that will become clear.

Meanwhile, Mangold argued that Jackman said there is a "slightly" different universe, but it does not mean it is completely disconnected from other movies. It simply suggest that it does not feel directly connected to any of the other movies in the franchise. Mangold explained that it is due to the fact that "Logan" is set further in the future than any other "X-Men" movie.

This is not the first time Mangold has had to clarify reports about his movie, as it was also reported that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will make an appearance in Wolverine's final outing, but Jackman, Reynolds and Mangold have all denied the reports, according to Yahoo.

"Logan" is set in the future (2029) and showcased that reveals there has been a decline in the birth rate of mutants. It reveals that Professor X (Stewart) will come to Logan with Laura (Dafne Keen) - a young mutant that Logan might be able to help.

It will be discovered later that Laura has Wolverine's powers as she is his clone. They will develop a close connection in the movie. "The relationship between Laura and Logan is going someplace deeply emotional," Mangold said. "It is a movie about fathers and sons. It is a movie about fathers and daughters."

Logan will have as its cast members, Hugh Jackman, Eriq La Salle, Sir Patrick Stewart, Elise Neal, Stephen Merchant and Elizabeth Rodriguez. The movie was scripted by David James Kelly and directed by James Mangold. It will mark the ninth time that Hugh Jackman has played the Marvel Comics character on the big screen. The movie is slated to hit theaters March 1, 2017.
