GoPro Karma News: GoPro Karma Core Replacement Begins; Improved Karma Drone Available Soon

GoPro Karma Drone is all set to emerge from the ashes of its tragic recall late last year as the company has announced that they will be releasing the 'Improved Karma Drone' very soon.

GoPro Inc. has announced this in a recently released statement, which also talks about the future plans of their company and their products.

The GoPro Karma Drone was originally launched back in the September 2016 and it was sold for a very affordable price of just $799. The drone was all set to control the entire drone market, but its reign was unfortunately cut short because of mechanical and battery problems that ultimately resulted in the company issuing a recall of the drone.

Following reports of numerous Karma drones falling out of the sky, the company has then officially issued a recall for all 2,500 units that were sold.

The issue on the GoPro Karma Drone was pinpointed to be a mechanical issue that was concerning the placement of the battery, which caused the drone to instantly shutdown. The company has revealed that the issue was easily fixed, but since they had already released it, it may have already been too late.

Following several lawsuits and the dropping of their stock prices, the company was forced to lay off 15 percent of their workforce. Despite the challenges, GoPro Inc. announced that they are set to spring back up this year with the re-release of the Go Pro Karma Drone, according to The Verge. 

The GoPro Karma drone's ability to have identical GoPro cameras, which give it a big advantage over its competitors, like the reigning fixed-camera drone, the DJI Mavic Pro.

GoPro also recently updated their website, which now contains a new GoPro Karma Core replacement product. The GoPro Karma Core can be used to replace the crashed drones, opposing the need to purchase an entirely different set. The GoPro Karma Core retails at only $349.

The GoPro website still registers the Karma Drone as "coming soon." The Drone itself will still cost $799.99. On the other han, the GoPro Hero 5 camera and drone package retails at $1,239. The Drone is compatible with different GoPro cameras, including the GoPro Hero 5 Black, Hero 5 Session, and Hero 4 Black/Silver.
