The production of the film "Aquaman" an adaptation from the DC Comics seems to be providing casting updates for their confirmed characters. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II from the Television show "The Get Down" is one of the confirmed cast for the villainous role of Black Manta in the film.

The role of Atlanna in the film is likely to be played by Nicole Kidman, where she will be featured as the mother of Aquaman. The current lineup of the casts which includes Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe for the film "Aquaman" are expected to be accompanied by the other two stars, Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, reported Coming Soon.

Jason Momoa who is set to be featured as the title character of Aquaman had made his debut with his appearance as the title character in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". With the release of "Justice League" which is all set to hit the theaters on 17 November 2017, Momoa is likely to be seen playing a much larger role.

Heard is also expected to be introduced in the film as Queen of Atlantis, named Mera. The Adventure Comics #260 in 1959 is flashback tale where Atlanna made her comic book debut. The comic depicts that Atlanna the Atlantean was love with Tom Curry, who was a human. Atlanna had died before Aquaman could even come in the picture as a hero, as per Screen Rant.

With the continuity in the storyline, the modern New 52 has taken the character of Atlanna into consideration and is made more prominent. It is believed that Atlanna in her effort of escaping the oppressive rule of Atlantis had faked her death.

The shooting of the film "Aquaman" is expected to begin in April. Kidman, as Atlanna in the film, probably might bring the best output for that small, yet essential role.
