"Vikings" Season 4 ended with an explosive finale last Wednesday. While fans are still grieving for the death of Travis Fimmel's Ragnar. The next season is ready to move forward without its original protagonist.

In the last few episodes of "Vikings" Season 4, Ragnar Lothbrok's sons reunite to avenge his death. Unfortunately, things get more complicated when Ivar (Alex Hogh) killed his brother Sigurd (David Lindstrom).

There's definitely more drama and conflict in "Vikings" Season 5. The show creator Michael Hirst told Variety that the new season might begin with Sigurd's burial and Ivar weeping over his death. However, Ivar's murder of Sigurd will split the brothers.

Ragnar had many adopted sons because in the Vikings society, the biggest calling is to be part of the Viking leader's brood. Unfortunately, everyone wanted to be the true successor. Thus, after successfully avenging Ragnar's death the brothers open the doors to world war.

The production will definitely play with the remaining characters to cover up the loss brought by Ragnar's death. Reports have it that the young bishop introduced last season, played by the "Tudors" star Jonathan Rhys Meyers will have a major role.

In Forbes' review, the bishop prayed over the grave of the deceased nobleman. He also took the time to talk and comfort the widows. However, he is not the ordinary bishop because he has his own armor and sword.

Per the report, this hints that the character is a sex-crazed holy warrior of god. If this is true, then Meyer's character is one of the main antagonists in "Vikings" Season 5.

Hirst confirmed that Meyers has a huge role to fill in the new season. "Yes, we introduce him and set the scene for the next season. He's going to be a major player," the show creator told the Hollywood Reporter.

At the time, the next season has no airdate yet. Since the series usually air in February and it has no update. There are rumors that it might take a full year before it returns.
