After facing disappointment over the deferred release of the "Star Trek: Discovery" series, Trekkies will be thrilled to know that CBS has begun production on the next big space adventure which will be released on its streaming site CBS: All Access. Aside from the new show, all of the episodes of Star Trek television series like "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Voyager," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," and "Star Trek: Enterprise" will be available online.

In the latest teaser video posted on the network's official Twitter site, the series will jumpstart a whole new adventure for the crew of the USS Discovery. The series is intended as a prequel to the events of the current installments in the Star Trek franchise and way before the time of Captain Kirk, originally played by William Shatner and Mr. Spock played by Leonard Nimoy.

Based on a report by Fansided, one of the things that shark-eyed fans of the franchise spotted was a redesign of the "Star Trek: Discovery" logo. While the 2016 logo and the 2017 version were similar in concept, the latter version seemed like a more polished version of the original concept. Both has the Star Fleet logo and a cut almost at the edge of the logo.

According to the report, this may simply be an artistic rendering or a symbol for the direction of the new series as it may represent a cut or a tear in the timeline explored by the USS Discovery.

It can be recalled that the series was originally intended for a January 2017 premiere on CBS: All Access but towards the end of the month, the network announced that it will be working with a flexible release date to enable the team to meet the expectations of the ambitious large scale project.

While it did not announce an actual timeline for the release of the 13-episode series, it was originally confirmed that "Pushing Daisies'" Bryan Fuller would take charge of the show. Fuller is no stranger to the "Star Trek" universe as he has previously written for "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" but unfortunately had to withdraw from the project because of his other commitments, The Verge reported. He will, however, maintain his role as executive producer.

Fringe's Alex Kurtzman has been listed as executive producer for the new addition to the "Star Trek" franchise. Aside from working on successful sci-fi television franchises, Kurtzman is also credited for the screenplay of the film reboots of "Star Trek" and "Star Trek: Into Darkness." Rod Roddenberry, the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and CEO of Roddenberry Productions will also join Fuller and Kurtzman as executive producer of the show.

The cast is also nothing to scoff at as Michelle Yeoh, Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones and James Frain have been confirmed to join the show.
