'Baywatch' 2017 Cast: David Hasselhoff As The Rock's Mentor: Film As Homage to 1989 TV Series

"Baywatch" 2017 will hit theaters this May 22. So far, the trailers that have been released reveal a "21 Jump Street" vibe set at the beach. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron play two lifeguards who uncover a murder mystery in Baywatch. The film is based on the TV series of the same name and it even stars two original "Baywatch" alumni, Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff.

Speaking of which, the 64-year-old actor told People Magazine that he was confused about the remake at first. Hasselhoff also said that the movie will be different from the TV series. It won't exactly be a reboot and it will pay homage to the original TV series. Accordingly, the new film's action will be more exciting and superior. The "Ted 2" actor said that the "Baywatch" 2017 movie cast welcomed him with open arms and asked him about his time on the original TV series.

Hasselhoff revealed that "Baywatch" was originally canceled by NBC after one mere season. Seeing the potential of the show, Hasselhoff and three others decided to take matters into their own hands and made a syndication deal that resulted in "Baywatch" having 11 seasons and 242 episodes.

As to which role Hasselhoff will play in the "Baywatch" 2017 movie, Breaking News reveals that The Hoff will be Dwayne Johnson's mentor. The actor said during a press tour that he will help Johnson's character but that he couldn't mention in what capacity. The actor said it will be a surprise. He also teased long-time "Baywatch" fans that the movie will be full of twists.

"It's not going to be the Baywatch of old," he said. "We can't recreate that." The actor went on to say that, at first, he was also overwhelmed about the changes from the "Baywatch" that he knew. Eventually, he was able to grasp that this "Baywatch" 2017 was a different, but still fun, version that can be enjoyed by a new generation. It isn't so much as replacing the old one as it is adding something new.
