Fans of the "Star Trek" franchise are keeping a close watch on the development of CBS All Access' "Star Trek: Discovery" to seek it will remain faithful to the franchise. One key character is expected to tie the prequel to the rest of the "Star Trek" universe - Mr. Spock's father Sarek. The character will be played in the television series by actor James Frain.

The version of Sarek in the new show will be a younger version of the character since the events of "Star Trek: Discovery" will be set ten years before the events the "Star Trek" shows. Still, the events are expected to be connected.

According to a report by Inverse, the inclusion of Spock's dad in the prequel will ensure the continuity in the series and emphasize the importance of the Vulcans in the history of the Star Trek universe. Sarek has earlier appeared in an episode of the original series and immediately became a fan favorite character because he represented the potential to flesh out the backstory of the Vulcans. The character also appeared in three of the six original Star Trek movies and was referenced on occasion in the franchise's installments.

Meanwhile, eagle-eyed fans are already posting theories about one element that was present in both versions of Star Trek: Discovery logo. It can be recalled that the newly released trailer for the show featured a logo that was more polished and different from its original concept art released by the network, TrekCore reported. One element that both logos had in common was the vertical line on the right side of the delta that signified the Star Fleet.

According to speculations, the vertical line on the right side of the Star Fleet logo may represent a tear or split in the timeline. This also spawned a theory on why the Star Fleet uniform changes so often, based on discussions on Reddit.

Fans believe that the Star Fleet may be changing their uniforms periodically as these serve as clever markers that keep track of time travelers. It was previously mentioned in Deep Space Nine that the Department of Temporal Investigations was established to monitor the changes in the time-space continuum and possible changes in the timeline.
