Fumika Shimizu, who portrays Touka Kirishima in the live-action adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul, announced that she is departing from the entertainment business. This happened after the actress went missing for a week which she said was due to stress. She also added that she will be joining the religious cult called Happy Science.

The 22-year-old actress revealed through a Happy Science lawyer and spokesperson the reason for her retirement. The said lawyer held a press conference where he showed the press people a handwritten letter from the actress. Fumika Shimizu explained in her statement that her eight years of acting has made her depressed. Furthermore, she can no longer accept the nature of the jobs or projects she is involved in. Thus her decision to enter Happy Science.

On top of it all, Fumika Shimizu cited that her working hours had been absurd, GoBoiano wrote. In addition, she only received little compensation. In fact, she revealed that she was paid only about $438 dollars for her work in "Kamen Rider Fourze". Another thing was that she had to wear a provocative swimsuit for a DVD clip despite her unwillingness to do so.

It is also confirmed that Fumika Shimizu has known about Happy Science for a long time. Crunchyroll mentioned that the actress has been involved with the group since she was a child. Her divorced parents were members of the religious organization as well.

This decision of Fumika Shimizu to turn her back on acting will impact some of the projects she was involved in. "Ankoku Joshi", "Warau Manekineko", and "Tokyo Ghoul" are slated for release this 2017 but the actress will no longer participate in the promotions. Due to that, her agency said they are likely to press charges against her if she continues to refuse to do previously agreed on activities.
