It was revealed in the latest episode of “Chicago P.D.” Season 4 that Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) was on an undercover mission. This explains why he was AWOL for several episodes. This week, he returned to the Intelligence Unit only to find that he has been replaced.

Ruzek was not around when his ex fiancee, Burgess (Marina Squerciati), was welcomed as the newest member of the IU. They had a brief romantic scene last episode which excited fans who were still hoping that they will be back together.

Ruzek’s partner, Olinsky (Elias Koteas), was assigned to train Burgess. That would have made for an uncomfortable situation for the exes according to TV Fanatic. Although Ruzek was happy that she was finally getting her dream of working at the IU, he didn’t want to be working so closely with her. He could have talked to Voight (Jason Beghe) but Razek knew his boss will not change their situation.

In the latest “Chicago P.D.” Season 4 episode, Ruzek went to Voight on his first day back, hoping he would get his seat in Intelligence back. But, Voight assigned Ruzek on patrol duty instead reports
Cartermatt. He went on as far as to say that newbie Kenny Rixton (Nick Wechsler) had already replaced him. Voight added that he had no plans to demote Rixton to give way to Ruzek.

Voight was mad because Ruzek didn’t tell him he was going undercover and had to learn it from someone else. Ruzek also suddenly left him one man down in the unit. As a parting shot, Voight assured him that if a vacancy opens up in the unit, he will let Ruzek know about it.

Things turned worse for Ruzek in the “Chicago P.D.” Season 4 episode when, he was assigned by Commander Crowley (Barbara Eve Harris) to the graveyard shift. Trudy (Amy Morton) told him that he did the right thing by giving way to avoid an uncomfortable situation. She advised him to work his way back one shift at a time.

Late in the episode of “Chicago P.D.” Season 4, Ruzek and Rixton talked while the former was emptying his locker. As they shared stories, the newbie told Ruzek to put his stuff back in the locker. It turns out Rixton had a job offer in another unit and he took it. He further said that he felt that he was just holding down Ruzek’s desk for him.
