'Alien: Covenant' Spoilers: Engineers Did Not Create Xenomorphs; Film to Explore Alien Origins

Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant" will be out early this year and it's going to explore the origin of the xenomorph aliens. The director revealed that the Engineers featured in "Prometheus" did not create them. They are going to be scarier and will be closer to the 1979 "Alien" creatures than the ones in "Prometheus".

The "Alien: Covenant" movie will serve as a bridge between the 1979 film and the 2012 "Prometheus". According to Inverse, director Ridley Scott clarified that the strange human species in the 2012 film did not create the xenomorphs. The 2017 movie will explore the questions about who created the xenomorphs and for what purpose.

Scott was not very forthcoming about the exact timeline of the "Alien" story, but Collider reported that "Alien: Covenant" takes places ten years after the "Prometheus" events. He also revealed that the film starts with the Covenant crew not knowing anything about the Prometheus ship's mission. The movie is going to be R-rated, which means that there's going to be a lot more horror in the upcoming movie than in "Prometheus".

"Alien: Covenant" spoilers also reveal that the Prometheus android, David (Michael Fassbender), will first be seen as a disembodied head before he gets a body. The 2017 film happens after "Prometheus", but it will be the first film in a trilogy that will lead to the events of the original "Alien" film. In fact, a researcher was hired to flesh out the "Alien" universe rules (disregarding the ones in the film "Alien vs. Predator").

One of the most interesting characters in "Alien: Covenant" is Daniels (Katherine Waterston) because of her similarities to Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in "Alien". Like Ripley, Daniels' first name is hardly ever mentioned. Also, both action heroines are third in rank among the crew members. Many speculate that she could be Ripley's mother, but the actress has not said anything about that rumor yet. The movie will come out on May 19, 2017.
