The Gladius underwater drone is one of its kind machine that can go under water and able to shoot 4K videos. It is probably the first ever UUV (Unmanned Underwater Vehicle) which is available in the consumer market.

A machine like the Gladius drone is said to be in the works long time back and it has finally hit the consumer market. The Gladius underwater drone is basically a remote-controlled submarine that can shoot 4K videos. This underwater drone is capable of going up to 100 meters down the waters. The drone is also capable of reaching 500 meters range horizontally.

The Gladius underwater drone has a streamlined triple-tubed body that contains the camera and the electronic hardware. The Gladius is built really tough as it has to withstand high water pressure in the deep water. The drone also houses two outside tubes that contain forward thrusters.

The Gladius underwater drone is controlled by a phone-connected remote and it is semi-tethered. The drone comes in two different packages - the basic package comes with a full HD camera, a 30-meter range and WiFi buoy which acts as a signal repeater for control messages that connect the drone's tether to the UUV itself. The basic drone package costs $599, Tech Crunch reported.

The upgraded package costs $799 and comes with a 4K camera. The Gladius underwater drone comes with "four degrees of freedom" (it's four different thrusters) for a highly flexible level of underwater navigation, Indiegogo reported. There is a mobile phone app for iOS and Android to remotely control the underwater drone via smartphones.

There are some limitations with the Gladius underwater drone. The drone cannot be controlled directly via wireless devices such as smartphones and remotes. This is not possible because of the density of fresh or salty water. The drone also comes with light sensor and image optimization package. The production of Gladius underwater drone is crowd funded and it is expected to hit the market in June this year.
