‘Designated Survivor’ Season 1 Episode 13 Spoilers, Promo: What Happens In ‘Backfire’

In the "Designated Survivor" Season 1 Episode 13, a journalist leaks sensitive information that puts the White House in chaos. Meanwhile, Hannah Wells continues to investigate the late Vice President MacLeish and his ties to the White House conspiracy.

The "Designated Survivor" Season 1 Episode 13 takes off following the fast-paced and shocking end in Episode 12, "The End of the Beginning." The White House is in chaos after speculations rise concerning Vice President MacLeish's death. President Kirkman is desperate to contain the assumptions before they get out of hand. He wants to know who is responsible for leaking classified information.

According to the synopsis from Blasting News, an investigate journalist is responsible for leaking classified information during a press briefing. President Kirkman then orders his Press Secretary, Seth, to find this person and find out his purpose. Apparently, the journalist released sensitive information that stirred several speculations from reporters. Seth will have to do some major damage control before the press gets out of hand.

However, this investigative journalist may give Seth more trouble in the "Designated Survivor" Season 1 Episode 13. In a previous interview with TV Guide, showrunner Marc Guggenheim teased that this person is Seth's match and he might be a challenge for the Press Secretary. Guggenheim said that this investigative reporter is "every bit the equal of Seth in terms of smarts and persistence," so it is going to be very interesting to see them interact together.

Elsewhere, Agent Hannah Wells continues to investigate the deceased Vice President MacLeish about his connection to the conspiracy. The synopsis teased she uncovers something beneficial to her search for the truth in the "Designated Survivor" Season 1 Episode 13.

The "Designated Survivor" Season 1 Episode 13 follows the events after MacLeish's death in Episode 12. To recap, the Vice President died during a mission led by Agent Hannah Wells. Following a lead by Joyner, MacLeish's former military ally, Wells along with the FBI managed to gather some evidence that could put MacLeish in jail for conspiracy against the government. However, the Vice President died before Wells could put him in prison. MacLeish's wife Beth shot him on the head and she later turned the gun on herself.
