After the solemn and serious 2013 Superman movie, "Man of Steel 2" will reportedly fly in a new direction. Warner Bros. is eyeing "Kingsman" director, Matthew Vaughn, who wants Superman to be fun and colorful again. It's going to be a different sequel from the 2013 film, which was directed by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.

Matthew Vaughn has a colorful career directing franchises and superhero movies. He was behind "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class" and co-wrote the script for "X-Men: Days of Future Past". He also directed the commercial success, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and he will also handle its sequel, "The Golden Circle". Now, Collider reported, Vaughn is in talks to direct "Man of Steel 2".

Fans will be shocked to know, though, that Vaughn had actually pitched his idea for a Superman movie way back in 2010, but it stayed on the ground. Warner Bros. went with Chris Nolan instead, after the success of his "The Dark Knight" trilogy. Now, he is negotiation with Warner Bros. for "Man of Steel 2" while doing post-production for "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

Nolan's dark and gritty Batman didn't suit Superman's origin story, especially since the characters were polar opposites anyway. Vaughn's idea for a Superman movie was different. "I think that's the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me," he said, indicating that "Man of Steel 2" would have a tonal shift.

This is still preliminary negotiations, so Vaughn might drop the film, as he once did for "X-Men: Days of Future Past" because he thought Bryan Singer would do the job better. Den of Geek reported that things might be looking up for "Man of Steel 2" and other DCEU films. DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns is serving as co-chair of DC Films, just like Kevin Feige manages Marvel Studios.

Having one major chairperson to oversee the movies might make the films flow more smoothly. It could also help the DC films rehabilitate their tone and flesh out each superhero's story arcs. The "Man of Steel 2" release date has not been finalized yet, but DC's line-up reveals untitled films on June 14 or Nov. 1, 2019, which the film could take. It already has a script and Amy Adams and Henry Cavill are already set to reprise their roles.
