"Lucifer" Season 2 now has shorter episodes according to showrunner Joe Henderson. It is down by four episodes from its approved 22.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Henderson confirmed that "Lucifer" Season 2 only has 18 episodes instead of 22. The remaining four will be included in Season 3. There is no definite time yet when the four episodes will air in the third installment.

The showrunner said that cutting "Lucifer" Season 2 short does not affect the storyline. "End of season 2 is still exactly what we planned," he said. Talking about the second installment, the creator teased that the finale is going to please fans. He called it "crazy awesome."

As for the four episodes that were supposed to be in "Lucifer" Season 2, Henderson did not say whether they air at the start of Season 3. He assured though that these episodes are beneficial to the overall story of the season. Henderson called them "stand-alone" episodes that do not deviate from the show since they are character-focused.

Cutting "Lucifer" Season 2 down to 18 episodes is not a big surprise. After all, the season was originally designed to have 18 episodes only. Fox only gave the green light to extend it before the show returned in February for its midseason premiere. At that time, Henderson already teased one of the story in the additional four episodes.

According to TV Line, the showrunner had mentioned about an episode that delves into the devil's backstory. Henderson said that one of the four episodes is a flashback to when Lucifer first arrived in Los Angeles. Fans will finally know the details why Lucifer is in the City of Angels. So far, "Lucifer" Season 2 only revealed that he left Hell for reasons still unknown.

Meanwhile, fans still have more than a month to wait before "Lucifer" Season 2 returns on air. The show returns with Episode 14, titled "Candy Morningstar" on May 1.
