Netflix renewed its Western crime drama one last time this year. "Longmire" Season 6 will be the show's last run. The cowboy police procedural started out at the A&E network, but it was cancelled after three seasons. Netflix picked it up and renewed it, but now, the show has only ten episodes more to wrap up its story. One of its actors, Lou Diamond Phillips, will be also be stepping up to direct Season 6 Episode 2.

The series is based on the "Walt Longmire Mysteries" novel series by Craig Johnson. The show revolves around Sheriff Longmire (Robert Taylor), who gets back to work after his wife's death. Throughout the episodes, where Longmire and his team investigate crimes, there's an overarching mystery surrounding his wife's death that deepens well into "Longmire" Season 6.

Cinema Blend reported that despite the show's positive reception and nominations, Netflix is pulling the plug. The show isn't aimed at younger audiences, unlike other original Netflix programs and it doesn't have a wide range of viewers because of its specific niche. "Longmire" Season 6 episodes will only available for residents in Canada, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.

The show films in New Mexico and the second episode of the upcoming season will be directed by Lou Diamond Phillips ("Young Guns", "The 33", "The Twilight Zone" revival episodes). It will be Phillips' first time in the director's chair for "Longmire" Season 6. According to Carter Matt, Phillips is already in New Mexico for the series production since he will still be playing the role of Henry Standing Bear.

There are no "Longmire" Season 6 spoilers since the writers and producers have kept quiet about the plot. In the last season, Henry found himself in a life-and-death predicament, so viewers will have to tune in to see what happens next. While the show retains the essence of the novels, the writers promised to add new twists that will make the show's ending shocking and satisfying for the fans.

Production has already started, but there's still no specific date for the "Longmire" Season 6 premiere. Recent reports indicate that it could air in September 2017. Netflix hasn't given an official statement about the reason for the cancellation, but many speculate it has something to do with a drop in viewer ratings, which has dogged the show since Season 1.
