AMD has set a benchmark in the PC industry with its Ryzen processors. The new processors beat Intel's similarly priced chips at a lesser price. The trend seems to evolve as AMD is gearing up to launch a 16-core Ryzen chip.

AMD Ryzen chips are based on completely new architecture and have drastic improvements over the previous generation. The current line has three CPUs - Ryzen 7 1700, Ryzen 7 1800 and the flagship Ryzen 7 1800X. However, new leaks suggest that AMD might have a behemoth processor to be unveiled soon which will rival the high-end chips from Intel and will feature 16 cores and 32 threads.

The new 16-core processor was leaked previously and it was reported that the chip would run at a frequency of 2.6GHz to 2.8GHz, MStars News reported. However, the new reports point out the AMD has increased the core clock speeds to 3.1GHz and with the turbo boost, the frequency will go up to 3.6GHz.

These core speeds translate to a very powerful processor that will beat Intel's flagship chips namely Haswell-E and Broadwell-E, PCGamer reported. The higher clock speeds in a 16-core processor are very uncommon as the heat generation will be large. However, AMD might have managed to efficiently dissipate the heat and performance will not be bottlenecked because of it.

AMD Ryzen 16-core chip is still unannounced but several reports suggest that it is in the works and will be launched by the end of the year. The new chip is supposedly a cut-down version of its server chip which is codenamed "Naples". Therefore, the new chip might also feature the X399 chipset with quad-channel DDR4 memory support and it should directly compete with Intel's X99 platform.

There might be several new features added to the 16-core chip as well. Rumors for the new features include a 64 PCIe Gen3 lanes and large cache for the CPU. The new processor might take up a huge server market share from Intel and will launch at an expected price of $1000.
