Google has released "Android Things Developer Preview 3," which gives a sneak peek into the developments on the "Internet of Things" based on Android. The third developer preview is an evolution of the "Android Things" that was released in 2015.

Google continued the development of its embedded platform on Android with the latest Developer Preview 3. The company is adding new features and bug fixes to the latest patch. The new update adds Bluetooth and more connectivity options over the USB, and support for existing Android API for Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy.

Google's goal with the Android Things platform is to allow developers to make Internet of Things devices with their existing knowledge of Android and its related services. Hence, Google has worked hard so that the code for smartphones and other devices can run without modifications on Android Things, according to Android Police.

Google also ensures that features such as Bluetooth LE advertisements and scanning and Bluetooth LE GATT work seamlessly on the new platform. The new update will allow the USB host to interface with custom USB devices without the need for need for root privileges or any support from Linux kernel, reported 9to5 Google. The USB host mode will come in handy when the peripheral devices will start using it in the future.

With this, Android developers can easily build smart devices using Android API and Google services while staying secure as the updates will come directly from Google. This update uses the Android functionality and applies it to embedded devices. This development is based on the feedback of the developers who contribute and report bugs and ask for fixes in the future updates.
