In a recent interview, Issa Rae has revealed what people can be expected from "Insecure" Season 2, after the resounding success of the first season. She also opened up about what inspired her to make such an unusual series in the first place.

It is a lesser known fact that Rae, one of the protagonists of "Insecure" Season 2, is also the mastermind behind the idea of depicting the oddities inherent in the friendship between two African-American women. She told Deadline that making a black women-centric web series is something that she was working on for a while.

"I think for such a long time, I just was not seeing great black female friendships on television," she said. "It was constantly about tearing one another down or throwing shade. There are elements of that, but for the most part, black women are essential to my life." The theme of an everlasting bond between two black women will be further explored in "Insecure" Season 2.

Another reason for Rae to make a show like this was to highlight the appeal of Los Angeles, which according to her, has been portrayed in a less-than-positive manner in the recent times. She hopes to continue telling her uncanny story since "Insecure" Season 2 has got a green light from HBO.

Dropping some major "Insecure" Season 2 spoilers, Rae added that if the first season was about the challenges that black female friends faced, the upcoming season would be about going with the current and doing what is expected of each character, Essence reported. The creator-cum-actress added the characters will be put through real-life situations that the viewers can relate to in their daily lives and discover what is like to be following the predictable path instead of taking the road less traveled.

Furthermore, "Insecure" Season 2 will start off exactly where the first season left off. The second season will premiere online on July 23 and will be Live streamed on HBO.
