'Homeland’ Season 6 Finale Brings in Big Ratings; Final 2 Seasons Will Tell One Story

“Homeland” Season 6 just had its big finale and it delivered big ratings. It drew in 1.9 million viewers, with the season itself averaging 5.5 million viewers per week across multiple platforms. Prior to the said finale, showrunner Alex Gansa talked about what fans should expect in the final two seasons of the show. And, it turns out that Seasons 7 and 8 will be told as one story.

“Homeland” Season 6 picked up several months from the previous season reports Deadline. Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) was living in Brooklyn and working at a foundation that provided help to Muslims living in the U.S. The season, however, was primarily about the aftermath of the U.S. Presidential elections.

In the Showtime series, a woman was elected to the office for the first time in history. “Homeland” Season 6 spanned from election day to the inauguration where the transfer of power between the outgoing and incoming presidents became fragile and complex. Now with the latest season over, it does not look like the show’s creators know what the big story of the final two seasons yet.

All that matters for Ganza now is that the viewers would want to see next season which was the purpose of the “Homeland” Season 6 finale. He and the writers hope that it not only sets up the final progression of the series but would also tease it up. Ganza said that he hopes the audience were shocked by the season finale as well according to Variety.

Ganza admits they are just at the very beginning of the process for Seasons 7 and 8. He does not even know when they are going to begin filming. He also revealed that they are going on a research trip to DC at the end of April just after the airing of “Homeland” Season 6. Since actual world events influence the story, they are also keeping their ears open to know what’s really happening in the world.
