Nancy Kerrigan Recalls ‘Devastating’ Series Of Miscarriages & Feeling 'Like A Failure’ On DWTS

Nancy Kerrigan shared with the world her difficult journey of becoming a mother of three. She confessed on the sets of DWTS that she has to go through 6 miscarriages that made her feel like a "failure" before she could have the family she always dreamt of.

Kerrigan, a former Olympic medalist, professional skater and current participant on DWTS, revealed that she always dreamt of having three children but did not have such an easy time with all her pregnancy. While she conceived her first child in 1996, a year after getting married to her husband, Jerry Solomon, who was also her agent at the time, her second pregnancy happened after a gap of 8 long years.

However, fate intervened and Kerrigan experienced her first miscarriage at the time. This was followed by 7 more painful miscarriages, she revealed on DWTS

"The first time that you go in and they tell you, 'Oh there's no heartbeat,' it's devastating," Kerrigan said on DWTS, People reported. Also, the doctors were unable to diagnose the mysterious cause behind the successful skater's array of miscarriages.

The hardest part of the entire ordeal was to break the unfortunate news to her first born son, Mathew, who was expecting a little brother or sister to arrive, adds Kerrigan. The DWTS contestant admitted that explaining her miscarriages to her young kid was really difficult after he had observed his mother quite far along in her pregnancy.

Despite "feeling like a failure," Kerrigan never gave up. Having grown up with two older brothers herself, she wanted to give her son the kind of family she had. Hence, the DWTS contestant battled through all the pain with the support of her husband and was finally rewarded in 2005, with the arrival of Brian, her second son, Entertainment Tonight reported.

Kerrigan went through the process of Vitro Fertilization Treatment (IVF), twice, in order to increase her chances of conceiving, even at a later age, and was able to welcome her second and third child. She added that since she always used to watch DWTS with her kids, all of them are very excited that she is participating on the reality show.
