U.S Congress has decided to repeal the FCC rules on how the Internet Service Providers or ISPs can use the data of their customers. With Republicans winning the votes, Trump approved the re-roll of Obama Administration's rules.

VPN or Virtual Private Network has been proven as an important tool to Internet Security. It can be used for different reasons: for bypassing school or office Internet restrictions, for lifting up government restrictions on Web surfing (that is if you live in countries such as China and Turkey), and of course, to be anonymous on the internet. It does the job by making an encrypted connection to a private server, which then processes search queries on the behalf of the customer without revealing addresses.

As the protection from the FCC rules has been rolled back, a lot of privacy-conscious internet surfers uses VPN to prevent ISPs from collecting browsing data, Fortune has learned. There are free VPNs but good ones are rare. Paid VPN providers are going to benefit from this repeal.

Twitter heads recommend using VPNs nonetheless, and it is best to use it at home too. The general counsel of Twitter, Vijaya Gadde, tweeted "Time to start using a VPN at home." The tweet was made just after the ruling, Android Authority reported. The said tweet was then retweeted by Twitter Chief Executive Jack Dorsey. This caused more people to take a look at VPNs and personal security.

This repeal is both a good thing and a bad thing. Users that don't use VPN or similar technology might get bombarded by ads tailored to their browsing habits. Hackers also got an easier access to data. But VPN providers are getting their sales to rise because of additional demands. And regular internet surfers taking internet security more seriously isn't quite a bad thing.
