Kendrick Lamar's 'DAMN' Seized Top Spot In Billboard 200 From Drake's 'More Life;' New Record

Kendrick Lamar's DAMN now occupies the top spot of Billboard 200 beating the record-breaking sales set by his rival Drake's More Life. With the singer's lead single "Humble", it also never failed to topple over Ed Sheeran's hit single " Shape of You" in claiming the top spot.Drake has dominated the Billboard charts the past few weeks. Although this week, Lamar never failed to snatch away the crown from his co-hip hop artist.

Lamar's album defeated the playlist released by Drake with skyrocketing sales of 603,000 sold copies, streaming and downloads since April 14, Mail Online reported. It is the singer's third No. 1 album to hit the Billboard charts after last year's "Untitled Unmastered" and 2015's "To Pimp a Butterfly". It is released under Top Dawg, Aftermath and Interscope Records.

Meanwhile, Drake's "More Life" have launched 505,000 sales during the last week of March. He premiered it on his OVO Sound show on Beats 1. Though Lamar fails to surpass Drake's record in its first week sales, Lamar's new album exceeded producers expectations with its massive sales. Now it is Lamar's "DAMN" known as the fastest selling album of 2017. "DAMN" garnered 353,000 in traditional digital download sales, 227,000 in streaming equivalent album (SEA) sales and 23,000 units in track equivalent album (TEA) sales. DAMN was also streamed 340.6 million times in its first week of release, as reported by Billboard.

his lead single "Be Humble", reached 50 Million views during its first airing. It was the most downloaded song for the span of 2 weeks. It does not only overshadows Drake for the biggest debut of the year but also dethrones Ed Sheeran's long term reign at a No.1 spot for "Shape of You". Ed Sheeran's Divide sold only 322,000 albums earlier this year.

Lamar's single "DNA," is also at No. 4 spot in Billboard giving Lamar his first two tracks to include in the top five list. DAMN has collaborations with well-known singers such as Rihanna and U2 with writing credits from Jay Z and Bruno Mars.
