"Sleepy Hollow" Season 5 will not happen, following reports that Fox has canceled the show. The network has declined to renew the series after Season 4 given its low viewership.

Variety confirms that Fox has canceled "Sleepy Hollow" Season 5. A Season 4 renewal is no longer on the cards and this comes as no surprise. Viewership on the supernatural drama has relatively been low in the past seasons. The show did not gain back the high numbers generated from Season 1.

According to Den of Geek, the succeeding seasons continued to decline in terms of viewership. Fox attempted to bring the show's numbers back up in Season 4, albeit with only 13 episodes instead of 18. The writers attempted to bring back the fandom by adding actress Janina Gavankar to co-star alongside Lyndie Greenwood and Tom Mison (Ichabod Crane). They also changed the location from Sleepy Hollow to Washington D.C.

However, these attempts did little to attract more viewers and generate buzz for a possible "Sleepy Hollow" Season 5. The numbers continue to decline, which ultimately prompted Fox not to renew the series after Season 4.

The "Sleepy Hollow" Season 5 cancellation comes after the show faced significant changes in the past seasons. Series creator Clifton Campbell replaced showrunner Mark Goffman when the latter left after Season 2. Likewise, series regular Nicole Beharie exited the show after Season 3. Fans thought her departure affected the direction of the show for Season 4. After all, what also attracted viewers to the series was her great on-screen chemistry with Mison.

Beharie's exit prompted writers to change the direction for Season 4. They added new characters and changed the show's location in the hopes that it can create buzz for a potential "Sleepy Hollow" Season 5. However, this only help the viewership plummet. After all, a show about Sleepy Hollow that happens in Washington D.C. was sure to raise questions.
