The premiere episode of "Rick and Morty" Season 3 ended with a cliffhanger about Beth and Jerry's divorce. Beth seemed happy to finally split from her husband, but Morty did not look at all pleased. This is understandable, given that he learned that their divorce was part of his grandfather's master plan.

Whatever Morty does next following this revelation is unknown. However, Ridley teased that Beth and Jerry's divorce plays an important role in the season's storyline. He revealed that "Rick and Morty" Season 3 explores the consequences of their divorce. "I mean, you saw in the first episode of Season 3 that Jerry and Beth get divorced - that plays out throughout the season," Ridley told Y Combinator.

In the same interview, Ridley teased at more consequences that play out in "Rick and Morty" Season 3. "Some of the stuff that you've already seen is going to play out more in Season 3," he added. According to Den of Geek, one of the consequences likely point to the conflict that develops between the titular characters.

It is supposedly likely that "Rick and Morty" Season 3 explores the change in relationship between the titular characters. A personal conflict arises and Beth and Jerry's divorce possibly plays a role in this conflict. Fans may see a Rick vs. Morty storyline play out going into the season.

Throughout the past seasons, fans saw how Morty always followed his grandfather's orders. He went along his crazy intergalactic adventures even though it destroyed his childhood. However, learning that Rick orchestrated Beth and Jerry's divorce might be the last straw for Morty. Perhaps, in "Rick and Morty" Season 3, he finally decides that he has had enough of his grandfather.
