Late last night (June 27), R&B songstress Janelle Monae announced the release date of her upcoming second studio album. The Electric Lady will be released on Sept. 10.

Monae made the announcement using the new Instagram video feature, which she posted via her Twitter. The simplistic video shows the "Tightrope" singer scribbling 'The Electic Lady is Coming! September 10, 2013! Janelle Monae"

There is no album art or official tracklisting for the album yet. However, some songs rumored to be on the album include "Dorothy Dandridge Eyes," "Dance Apocalyptic" and "Victory,' according to NME. Prince and Miguel are set to make guest appearances on the album. The latter will feature on "Primetime," which samples the classic Pixies song "Where Is My Mind?"

Earlier this year, Monae released the first single from The Electric Lady, "Q.U.E.E.N." featuring Erykah Badu. The tight jazz-infused R&B song is a funky, empowering anthem that seems to indicate a more '70s-inspired sound for Monae's second record.

Following the album announcement, Monae posted a video "The Inspiration," where she discusses her influences for The Electric Lady.

"The Electric Lady was inspired by paintings... I would paint on canvas while I was singing; it would be an image of a female body, a silhouette every single night, these oranges, these greens, these yellows. I didn't understand why I was getting up on stage and every night I just wanted to paint the same thing in gold and green," she explained.

When talking with friends about these paintings, the name "Electric Lady" came to Monae's mind, and she mixed the title with her own life experiences to create her second album.

The Electric Lady will be the follow-up to Monae's debut album The Archandroid. The singer was also featured on the Grammy-winning song by fun. "We Are Young."
